The Things I Want

Psalm 23:1. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not be in want.”

I have a pretty long wish list. I have places I want to go. I have things I want to do. I have dreams I want to come true. I have visions of who I want to be.

I want.

I suspect we all have wants. The issue isn’t whether we have wants but rather to what degree our wants determine and direct our lives. Do our wants control how we spend our energy, time, and money? How attached are we to our wants?

Wants often have the power to narrow our vision and limit our freedom. When this happens, we tend to go places that our Good Shepherd would not take us. We bypass green pastures, the waters of life are anything but still, and the path is probably more dangerous than we think.

I try to keep my wants and needs in a healthy relationship. It makes life better. I also makes some sacrifices for family members to balance my account with God. I believe I am in the plus column with God. I love your inspirational essays.
