• Interpreters Of The Present Time – A Sermon On Luke 12:49-56

Interpreters Of The Present Time – A Sermon On Luke 12:49-56

“How is Uvalde?” How many of you have been asked that question? I have. I suspect it’s a conversation we’ve all had whether about Uvalde or another situation. It’s the obvious and natural thing to talk about after any kind of tragedy, trauma, or loss. That conversation takes place within families, among friends, between concerned citizens, Read more

  • If That’s What Faith Is Like … – A Sermon On Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16

    If That’s What Faith Is Like … – A Sermon On Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16

“By faith Abraham … set out [for a place], not knowing where he was going.” How’s your faith these days? I ask that question because there are events, times, and seasons in each of our lives when everything we thought we knew or believed is called into question. The narrative of our life has been Read more

  • Can I Get An “Amen”? – A Sermon On Luke 11:1-13

Can I Get An “Amen”? – A Sermon On Luke 11:1-13

“Lord, teach us to pray,” one of the disciples asked Jesus in today’s gospel (Luke 11:1-13). I wonder what’s behind his request. When you reflect on your own life of prayer what do you imagine he’s really asking? In what ways might he be echoing our desire and struggle to pray? I wonder if something Read more

Resetting Plumb Lines In Uvalde – A Sermon On Amos 7:7-17 and Luke 10:25-37

The Lord said to Amos, “See, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people.” (Amos 7:7-17) God speaks these words to Amos while standing next to a wall built with a plumb line. A plumb line, as you know, is a tool used by builders to insure that a structure, a Read more

  • Enlarging Life In Uvalde – A Sermon On Luke 8:26-39

Enlarging Life In Uvalde – A Sermon On Luke 8:26-39

It’s not too difficult to make some connections between the man in today’s gospel (Luke 8:26-29) and ourselves and what has happened in Uvalde. Though his circumstances may be different from ours, we’re not that different from him. The man used to live in a house in the city, now he lives outside the city Read more
