He and Us – Thoughts on the Nativity from St. Ambrose

Christmas, St. Ambrose, Nativity of Jesus
Icon of our Lord’s Nativity

“He was a baby, a child, so that you may become a complete, mature person. He was wrapped in swaddling clothes, so that you might be freed from the bonds of death. He was in a manger, so that you may be on the altar. He came to earth so that you may be in the stars. He had no place in the inn, so that you may have in heaven many mansions. He, being rich, became poor for your sakes, that through his poverty you might become rich.”

– St. Ambrose (4th century)

Although your post is from two years I heard this quoted today and a quick search on the internet led to your site. Question: do you know the exact written source for this quote from Ambrose?

I think (but am not positive) that it comes from Ambrose’s Exposition on the Gospel According to Luke.

      God’s peace be with you,
